Bowen Island Seniors’ Housing Co-operative (Bowen Court)
Bowen Island Seniors Housing Co-operative was established in 1982 and is located on Miller Road. The Bowen Court complex consists of 18 one-storey row houses grouped around a courtyard. Each unit has a front and back lawn with gardening opportunities. A separate community building houses a spacious lounge, recreation rooms, office and utility areas, a guest suite and a caretaker’s suite.
Bowen Island’s Affordable Housing for Ownership Program
 
A guide to the Bowen Island Municipality’s affordable housing program designed to produce non-market housing units for purchase at below-market prices. Bowen residents, employees, and others who qualify are invited to review the application package that includes the application form, the list of qualifications, ownership unit guidelines, an outline of the waitlist process, and the mortgage pre-approval form.
Bowen Island Resilient Community Housing (BIRCH)

 
BIRCH has partnered with the Bowen Island Municipality to develop a community rental housing project on a portion of community lands. The project will provide 25± units of secure rental housing for Bowen Island community members. Units will be available in a variety of sizes from studios up to 3 bed family units. This location is on Miller Road, adjacent to the proposed firehall and health centre. The project is currently still in the development process.
Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER)
SAFER provides rent assistance for those who are 60 and over. This BC Housing program helps make rents affordable for BC seniors with low to moderate incomes. SAFER provides monthly cash payments to subsidize rents for eligible BC residents who pay rent for their homes.

Assisted Living

Snug Cove House
Snug Cove House is a soon-to-be-built supportive living facility for seniors on Bowen Island, created to develop a sustainable response to the need for supportive housing for Bowen seniors. The plan is that the seniors’ residence will provide suites for seniors who wish to live in community, with some support services offered. Intended to create a sense of supportive community for seniors who want a closer sense of involvement with the island and who are still able to manage fairly independently.
Kiwanis Manor (West Vancouver)
Kiwanis Manor is a four-storey, wood-frame building with main and secondary entries and lounge areas in the lobbies. Kiwanis Manor is situated in Kiwanis Park, an independent housing area in West Vancouver. There are 30 one-bedroom assisted living units, each with their own bathroom and walk-in shower. The one bedroom units are typically large enough to accommodate couples. The building also has an additional 46 units of affordable (subsidized) housing rentals available through the housing provider (West Vancouver Kiwanis).
Churchill House (North Vancouver)
​Assisted living is a housing plus health services option if you are still relatively independent but need a little extra help with meals and personal care. Operated by Chartwell Seniors Housing, Churchill House is a four storey, wood-frame building with available secured resident parking. It was built in 2006 and has 97 units (37 of which are subsidized assisted living units).
Cedar Garden (North Vancouver)
 
Assisted living provides accommodation, hospitality, and personal care services in a manner that maximizes choice and supports independence. Cedar Garden is a two-storey wood frame building that was renovated in 2004 with 30 one-bedroom subsidized assisted living units. There is a bathing spa on each floor, a visiting hairdresser and a large-screen TV, piano and fully equipped kitchen located in the dining area. Tenant laundry machines are on site and a furnished garden area and outdoor BBQ are available for use.
Seniors’ Supportive Housing
BC Housing provides specially modified rental homes for low-income seniors and people with disabilities who need some assistance to live on their own. Support services include 24-hour response, light housekeeping, meals, and social and recreational activities. For details and application information, visit the link.

Information and Referral

Home Adaptations for Independence (HAFI)
The HAFI program provides financial assistance in the form of a grant to eligible low-income households to complete home adaptations for independent living. Helps low-income seniors and people with disabilities finance home modifications for accessible, safe, and independent living. Eligible homeowners, renters, and landlords can receive up to $20,000 per home in the form of a forgivable loan.
Senior Services Society
Seniors Services Society provides seniors with information and guidance on housing options in BC. Their goal is to connect adults 60+ with a variety of support programs and housing navigation services to enhance their lives, and help them live comfortably and safely in their homes.
BC Property Tax Deferment
Tax Deferment is a low interest loan program that helps qualified B.C. homeowners pay their annual property taxes on their principal residence. Eligible applicants aged 55 and older can apply to have their current year’s property taxes deferred.
B.C. Seniors Home Renovation Tax Credit
Home Renovation Tax Credit for Seniors assists eligible individuals 65 and over and persons with disabilities with the cost of home renovations to improve accessibility or be more functional or mobile at home. You can claim the credit when you file your T1 income tax return.
